New RVC -- June*, 2024

Thank you to everyone who voted in the recent election for Regional Vice Chair (RVC), and (obviously) thank you for electing me as Region 8 RVC for 2024-2027. I’ve received texts, emails, video greeting cards, and even a box of chocolates offering congratulations (and condolences) on being elected. My thanks to all and my thanks to Jodi Del Mar for being a candidate for this position.

I’m in the process of learning what it means to be a member of the American Mensa Committee (AMC), our board of directors, as well as meeting the new members of the AMC. The majority of the new AMC have, like me, never served on the AMC before, so there’s a bit of a learning curve.

My term begins on July 1. I will be at the Annual Gathering in Kansas City for my first time at an AMC meeting sitting at the table, not in the audience. If you are going to KC, a Region 8 Meet-and-Greet is scheduled; please join me there. If you are in the SF Bay Area, please join me for a backyard barbecue on Sunday, July 21. I look forward to learning more about the eleven chapters in Region 8 and working with the new AMC. My goal is to be able to represent the needs of Region 8 (although our our local groups are very diverse) as well as support American Mensa.

This is a challenging time for American Mensa. Our membership has been declining, dues have increased, our most recent National Ombudsman has resigned, and our Executive Director is leaving. With challenges there’s an opportunity for improvements. I hope to be able to contribute to them.
